YVES SAINT LAURENT: STYLE IS ETERNAL

The Bowes Museum, an amazing French Chateau in Northern England, has just announced its upcoming fashion exhibition featuring the work of the great fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.

The first exhibition in the UK to present a comprehensive display of the French designer’s work and life, the Yves Saint Laurent: Style Is Eternal show will present fifty garments including iconic pieces from the Russian Collection, the aforementioned Mondrian dresses and the Tuxedo. The show will also open up a dialogue with The Bowes Museum’s fine and decorative art collection, creating a unique sense of narrative around the history of fashion in general.

The exhibition which has been organized in collaboration with the Fondation Pierre Bergé - Yves Saint Laurent will take place from 11 July - 25 October 2015.

BIRDS OF PARADISE, MOMU, ANTWERP

This exhibition is an ode to the elegance and refinement of the application of plumes and feathers in fashion and haute couture. In collaboration with Maison Lemarié of Paris, the exhibition sheds light on the craft of the plumassier and the diverse techniques of feather embroidery through a mixture of 19th-, 20th- and 21st-century accessories, garments and couture dresses.

“Birds of Paradise,” is at Mode Museum Antwerp through August 24, 2014.

AISTHISIS - THE ORIGIN OF SENSATION

This exhibition, a collaboration between the FAI and LACMA, displays 19 works by the artists Robert Irwin and James Turrell at an 18th-century Italian villa, including a new work by each artist. Turrell will realise a Ganzfeld – a space specifically lit to eliminate depth perception, and Irwin will produce a site-specific geometric maze using natural light and a scrim. There will also be displays of the artists’ projects and practice, with letters, texts, photographs, interviews and documentaries.

AI WEI WEI 'EVIDENCE'

Berlin based Martin-Gropius-Bau museum presents Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei’s largest solo exhibition to date. The exhibit, named “Evidence”,  extends on 3000 square meters and 18 rooms. The central installation called “Stools” shows 6000 wooden stools found in rural places in China. Due to political issues Ai Wei Wei was not allowed to travel to Berlin, so he designed the show in his studio in Beijing. The show runs until July 7, 2014.

This exhibition at the Design Museum reveals unseen elements of the fashion industry, touching on design, marketing and the catwalk, in an attempt to put into context the output of label Paul Smith, with its quintessential Englishness and its playful style. Some of Smith’s collaborations outside the confines of high fashion, with companies such as camera maker Leica and The Rug Company, will be presented, along with a recreation of the designer’s office. Publisher Rizzoli is releasing a book with the same name as the exhibition.
