THE OBLITERATION ROOM BY YAYOI KUSAMA

by Miryam Muller in

Artist Yayoi Kusama built and transformed a small domestic environment into a multi-coloured installation at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in Australia. But it wasn't just Kusama who did all the hard work: the artist invited child visitors to stick thousands of small coloured stickers to the surfaces of the white room she'd built. The space, which features white chairs, white tables and white sofas, acted as a giant blank canvas for the little visitors to get creative and cover with their stickers over a two week period. The result, an installation called The Obliteration Room, is a room with a brightly mosaic interior that visitors to the gallery can walk around and see for themselves.

The Obliteration Room is part of Yayoi Kusama's 'Look Now, See Forever' exhibition, which can be seen at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art until March this year.
