Days of reading are back, and the best thing about reading is, you can do it everywhere and anytime.
The joy of reading a book is often in the escapism. Physically you might be cramped on a commuter train en route to the office but mentally you could be on the road across America with Mr Jack Kerouac or spending a year in provence in the company of Mr Peter Mayle.
There for, weekly e-magazine Book Your Stay, on men’s luxury fashion brand Mr Porter’s webpage, started illustrating a series of super-engaging classic, must-read books and the places in which they were set.
By matching the mood of the books, to the lighting, scenery and colors, their illustrations imagine all sorts of appropriate locations for each book. For instance: A novel about American ex-pats and hippies, for example, is set on a Mexican beach; John Steinbeck is best read among rolling hillsides.
Over the past years the features on Mr Porter’s webspace have only become increasingly more stylish, representing the brand’s core values using only the best editorial accompanied by staggeringly good commissioned illustrations.
This makes it so engaging, that even if you have nothing to buy from their page, you can still visit them just to go and flip through their journal.
Their Book Your Stay section is a perfect example of a brand knowing its consumers. Mr Porter is selling a lifestyle that is both luxurious and attainable and uses intellectual and scholarly references to add a high-brow appeal to their brands identity.
