In Los Angeles, where all that glitters is, indeed, gold, an extremely cool initiative of two young woman, Billie Lopez and Tootie Maldonado, has found ways to teach “La La” land how to stay blingy while contribute in saving Planet Earth.
In fact, The ReForm School is a store, but the founders mean far more than simply managing their popular Silver Lake, California, shop. The former schoolmates opened up the shop eight years ago with these rules: 1.) Don't be another granola shop selling hemp & bamboo and 2.) "Reform" ideas and materials into something new.
Whether exploring thrift stores for vintage finds, hosting a series of hands-on Home Ec. classes, or planning field trips to test out a new DIY-canoe kit, the duo successfully share their passion for unique goods with local (and loyal) customers and artists. With the addition of an really cool online store, class is now in session for the rest of us, too.
Their lovingly-curated shop has everything from pink vintage typewriters and build-your-own-canoe kits to repurposed denim and salvaged china are on offer.
Maybe a Reform School could actually, literally, be an awesome new project to start.
