Chinese artist Zhang Xiangxi has find an awesome way to re-purpose old tv’s into dioramas of what some of his old rooms used to look like - his workspace in Guangzhou, the workers’ dormitory he once lived in, his parent’s sitting room and even the interior of a train carriage.
The artist says, "I like to closely observe daily life and work out how to make things."
Zhang manages to capture the ambience of each environment. His attention to detail is amazing and because the pieces are rendered so faithfully, they feel instantly familiar to what you suppose a Chinese room looks like. From that turquoise upholstery, those grubby head rests and those red, white and blue plastic travel bags (it even includes all of the clutter that a real room would have.)
‘Chinese Perspective’ is beautiful, thought-provoking art.
