Truly understanding what freedom means might show the way to innovation and a durable future. Entrepreneurial guts and a more philosophical approach to life are needed, cutting the suffocating cords of the old World, in order to understand tomorrow’s demands.
Economists, politicians and other decision makers have become prisoners of their collective traditional thinking, restricting statistics and the quantitative growth principal. Reflection on past actions is the first step to liberate Western society from a superiority complex and the denial of the deplorable situation of the economic state of the Western world.
Aiming for a fresh start won’t be easy, because in fact it can be compared with quitting smoking or any other addiction. Throughout recent decades, collectively a lot of mistakes and miscalculations have been made and the impact on society has finally become clear to an increasing group of people. Until devastating harm has been done, caused by any addiction; a “patient” normally is able to control life, trying to hide or ignore a growing tumor.
In accordance with classic economic laws we are clearing up the mess, following directions that fitted days gone by, but unfortunately nothing can be compared to any situation from before the introduction of the internet. The fact is that economic rules are still focused on a horizontal approach to everyday issues. Until we realize we have to liberate ourselves from old habits we will not be able to find a way out of the explosive situation we are currently in.
Organization structures fit an environment. The strict morals and values of the fifties merged perfectly in a system of control and order, the freedom of the seventies requested a more open approach and in today’s reality, where the real meets the virtual and the imaginary, multi-focused directions are needed. (However difficult and impossible it may seem.)
Society is yearning for new ideas and solutions to improve the current situation. In general humanity has always profited from free souls and creative thinkers opening doors to progress and prosperity. So why not give the chance to more people to free their minds and let them investigate for instance the future of work?
Governments might be better off, hiring talented unemployed people, rather than expensive consultants to find new ways to make money in the future. Being in an endless situation like unemployment, unable to pay your mortgage or educate your kids properly, the need to find a solution for a better future is so high that a positive outcome is more likely to come.
Our economic system has become so counter productive that in many cases it is more profitable not to perform, because when the job is done you’re out of business. In order to keep your market vibrant it seems to be better “to keep the water troubled”.
Our primal instinct will always be to survive from hardship and to take care of our families and loved ones first, but injustice, abuse and inequality will bring us to the barricades. Confidence in politics and the financial world is at an all time low and global leaders should take that seriously, while there is still time. Democracy is about finding consensus for all, but it seems that the general agreement still lays with financial and political power.
Nobody recovers from the exploitation of people in the long term, that’s why slavery was abolished. Let the current uproar throughout the world on a political, economical and social level inspire us to emancipate, to liberate society from all the powers that are in the way of an honest global reform.
Creating a durable future should come before shareholders’ profits, while investment in innovation focused on creating a self-sustaining lifestyle should be considered to be more valuable, than the millions in the bank accounts of the so called “fortunate” 1%.
Power to the 99%!
