Space is pretty much an ever on hot topic, also in jewelry. The ancients wore amulets depicting the moon, in Georgian and Victorian jewelry we see numerous depictions of stars and Halley’s comet. Also the mid-21th century saw an explosion of “space age jewelry” and corresponding couture in today’s fashion, thanks to people like Lady Gaga and many other entertainers.
Perfect time for Forbes Galleries to present their latest exhibit “Out of This World! Jewelry in the Space Age” I say!
This exhibition is a great example of how man's fascination since early times has been expressed in jewelry.
The show, curated by Elyse Zorn Karlin, co-director of the Association for the Study of Jewelry and the Related Arts, runs from March to September 7th 2013 and features pieces from over 100 designers inspired by space, have been to space, made out of materials that came from space and even features materials created by NASA for space exploration.
Bonnie Kirschstein, Managing Director of The Forbes Galleries, says, “We are excited to have this exhibition in our jewelry gallery for jewelry lovers as well as those with a curiosity for science and outer space. The way the two have influenced each other throughout the years is interesting and has inspired so much creative and thought-provoking design. It is in our nature to be curious about the world beyond our own, giving this exhibition a universal draw.”
