While poorly made infographics are being called the “plague” of the internet, its awesome to see artists like Paul Marcinkowski (AKA Kaplon) create something truly original.

You might remember the famous 1999 Stefan Sagmeister poster where the designer carved text into his own body with an X-acto knife. Needless to say, his unconventional method is a radical way to convey a message, and now the young designer student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, Poland, who studies in the graphics / painting department, produced an infographic piece (which in some ways reminds me of Sagmeister’s AIGA Detroit lecture poster) for his recent final project, where he chose to photoshop a tattoo across his entire upper body with an infographic about tattoos.

The graphic details interesting facts about the tattoo process, such as popular reasons why people get the tattoos, where tattooing is practiced (worldwide), the percentage of people who have tattoos, interesting fun facts about the tattoo machine, most popular tattoo designs, and the top three reasons why people regret getting their tattoos.

The artwork is brilliant and nails the style of tattoo art on the body while also integrating the tattoo style into infographic design. Check out more of Kaplon’s work on his Tumblr where he’s starting a sketchbook series, and where you’ll also find close-up images of the tattoo infographic below.
