New York boasts some fascinating subway art, and now there's an app to help you explore it. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)'s Arts for Transit division has launched the smartphone guide, which you can access by downloading travel navigation iPhone app Meridian and choosing the MTA option.

Within the app, works are organized by subway or railroad line and artist. You can browse through the art available on a particular line, or check out what’s available in the MTA system by a particular artist. The app also offers turn-by-turn directions to installations, and trip planning if you want to plan an art ride through the transit system.

The Meridian app is a free download, and also features tours of the Portland Art Museum, Balboa Park in San Diego, and Powell’s Books in Portland, amongst others.

Wish I still lived in NYC!
