With tears in my eyes I watched this picture of Chief Raoni, leader of the Kayapó people in Brazil. He shows his emotions when he learns that Brazilian president Dilma released the beginning of the construction of the hydroelectric plant of Belo Monte.
It means, the death sentence of the people of the great bend of the Xingu river is enacted. At least 400,000 hectares of forest will be covered with water, 40.000 indigenous and local populations will be chased away, precious nature will be destroyed ... all to produce electricity at high social and environmental cost!
Please listen to the words of Chief Raoni in this video and when you agree do sign this petition - http://amazonwatch.org/take-action/stop-the-belo-monte-monster-dam - to support not only the inhabitants and the natural habitat of the region, but also to show respect to the last remains of what true nature was meant to be.
