CLEMENT VALLA, SURREAL GOOGLE EARTH POSTCARDS

by Miryam Muller in ,

These surreal pictures by artist Clement Valla are taken from Google Earth. Using no Photoshop in his project called “Postcards from Google Earth” the artist makes postcards of satellite images projected onto topographic terrain distorted by the algorithms of the popular software.

Through this technique, instead of arching over a valley or a roadway, the bridges in his series conform to the surfaces that span over in the real world, giving an obscure new reality to these bridges.

According to Valla’s artist’s statement: “inherent contradictions and absurd situations result from the very structure of the system itself, producing unfamiliar artifacts and juxtapositions.”
