As part of the Smart City Expo in Barcelona the Endesa Pavilion is a demonstration of environmental and fabrication technology built by the Institue for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. The Pavilion’s most glaring design feature are the wedges overshadowing the windows of the pavilion, adjusting to track the angle of the sun on the southern face of the project.
The Endesa pavilion is light, portable, and solar-powered. With a modular structure constructed of laminated wood and a photovoltaic roof, the building exists as a study of “distributed intelligence” and digital fabrication.
The pavilion is only a temporary resident of Barcelona, and will live along the Olympic Port for a year.
