The biggest danger during an earthquake is getting crushed by stuff falling around you. That’s why experts will tell you to take cover under furniture or in a doorway. Better still would be to have a special crush-resistant place to hide, like this 65-ton seismic bed. And because exploiting people’s fear of a crushing death is a great way to sell products, a Japanese furniture manufacturer is introducing a $5,600 earthquake-proof ‘Wood Luck’ bed. The thing that makes it “earthquake-proof” is its specially treated cedar frame, capable of withstanding up to 65 tons of pressure without breaking. Does your ceiling weigh that much?
You can see the bed from all sides in the video below. They don’t show it during an earthquake too, which is too bad. That would be the perfect time to use a shaky cam, at least.
