To celebrate the launch of its new Women’s Designer Galleries, Selfridges has commissioned The Film Project, a bespoke short film collection intended as an experience rather than a conventional exhibition, which are being shown in The Old Selfridges Hotel.
Selfridges collaborated with the likes of Alexander McQueen, Ann Demeulemeester, Comme des Garçons and Gareth Pugh, with each designer choosing their own director to work with. The only stipulation was that the films should all feature a strong female leading character.
Selfridges has appointed curator Emma Reeves to work closely with the designers who have been invited to take part in the project. These designers have created short films which interpret the essence of today’s modern woman: sophisticated, intelligent, confident, stylish, strong and feminine. The designers have chosen to collaborate with a range of international filmmakers from exciting young talent to more established names.
The films are open for public viewing until the 25th March, but If you can’t make it down to the exhibition, they’re also available for viewing online here.
Alexander McQueen film Obscure Desires is directed by the acclaimed cinematographer and art director Dustin Lynn. Watch it for yourself above.
