  • MORTAL COMBAT

image via MIKEFRACTALS,  MORTAL COMBAT Is humanity today less violent than it was 10,000 years ago? Humans are reminded of this paradox from the very first full experience outside placental walls. [...]

ORIGAMI INSTALLATION FOR THE NEW BLOOMBERG PAVILION PROJECT IN TOKYO

By Miryam on 16 December 2011

An impressive creation of Japanese architect Akihisa Hirata for the new Bloomberg Pavilion. Inspired by origami, Akihisa Hirata “wondered what would happen if the walls were to keep growing upwards and present an uneven surface like ‘pleats’.” He dug into his imagination to create a white rectangular structure with a plethora of triangular connecting faces protruding from it in the entry of the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. The metal white pieces were connected together using a relatively simple process, by connecting  a series of isosceles triangles – even though the structure appears complex, it is actually quite simple in its construction. Besides the interest of the installation itself, it will also serve to expose the works and host performances of young Japanese artists.
